Galveston Bay offers some of the best saltwater fishing on the Gulf
coast. However, due to the prevailing southern winds, the North side of
the Bay is often to rough to enjoy fishing. West Galveston Bay offers
good fishing but
is extremely shallow in many unsuspecting places. This leaves East Galveston Bay as the preferred
area of the bay to fish. East Galveston Bay has numerous oyster reefs,
shoreline marshes, and offers many areas with limited wave action due to
prevailing southern winds. In addition, East Galveston Bay is further away
from the Houston Ship Channel and chemical plants resulting in cleaner
fishing grounds.
Why fish from the Bolivar Yacht Basin?
Bolivar Yacht Basin is centrally located along the south shore of East Galveston Bay and the Intracoastal waterway. This location gives you quick access in all directions of East Galveston Bay. The Oyster reefs, such as well known Hanna's reef, the shore line marshes that border the Intracoastal Canal and the North shore are all a short boat ride away. In addition, for those who enjoy deep sea fishing, the entryway to the Gulf of Mexico is only about 7 miles from the Bolivar Yacht Basin via the Intracoastal waterway.
Bolivar Peninsula and Crystal Beach
(Left:
Sailing in East Bay)
Bolivar Yacht Basin is located on the Galveston Bay side of the Bolivar
Peninsula between Port Bolivar and Crystal Beach, approximately 6 miles from the
Bolivar ferry landing and 2 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. The marina is ideally
located near some of the best Galveston Bay fishing grounds.
Due to the prevailing winds from the south, Galveston Bay boating is easier
along the peninsula because the water is generally calmer with less wave action
than farther north on Galveston Bay. The marina is also ideally located for
deep-sea fishing due to its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. One
can fish from, or just enjoy the approximately 25 miles of Bolivar’s drivable
beaches.
In addition, the peninsula is a great starting point to make day trips to
Galveston, Houston, Beaumont, and southwest Louisiana.
Eating Facilities: Steve's Landing and Stingaree Restaurant are popular casual dining places located further East from the Bolivar Yacht Basin along the Intracoastal waterway and accessible by boat. While on the Peninsula you might want to check out other local eating facilities information is found on the following site.
